Application of Architectural and Structural materials (Individual)

Taj Mahal

This project, I will have to choose an architect from the given list or any other buildings. For me, I have settled down on Taj Mahal. I then need to conduct in-depth research of the correct or suitable material for usage along with the studies of properties, reasons behind the usage because material offers different function, appearance and sense varying on each buildings. 

We will be touching on background of the architect, historical background of the building, 5 architectural building materials and 2 structural building materials, orthographic drawing, Materials’ analysis and selection in relation to the building’s design concept and conclusion on the choice of materials.

  1. The elements of a building structure are typically based on the kind of material used in its construction. 

  2. The materials used for an element also, quite often, contribute to its terminology.

  3. The material used establishes a relationship between the endurance of a structure as well as the technical and structural aspects of the design of the built environment.

Reflection

After going through every classes and activities this module has to offer,  I felt like I have learnt so much about the theories, yet very useful in real life application. It has answered many of my doubtful questions towards construction, as this module gave the insight of construction process with very detail and specific information. During the final assignment, the most obvious thing that I discovered was the advantage of working as part of a group, I learned that good teamwork is the key to success when time and resources are limited. As everyone had their own point of view, many different ideas could be produced, and I found the energy of group participation made me feel more energetic about contributing something. Furthermore, I have met a very good leader who takes initiative to understand and make the group come together as one, keep us up to date and goes extra miles to improve our work, he has never hesitate to help us when we face problems. Frankly, I really enjoyed a lot doing this module. Nevertheless, we are being guided by our tutor, Dr. Suja, she is a very good teacher packed with knowledge, whenever we have problems or face challenges, she will explain patiently and give out all her knowledge about, which I find it very useful. I'm glad to be arranged under Dr. Suja's tutorial, therefore, it has opened up my knowing and interest towards architecture field.
