SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE, BUILDING & DESIGN
Project 2b
Experiencing Place - The Memory Repository
An architectural response to design A MEMORY REPOSITORY emphasising a strong engagement and relationship to the site, spatial experiences and programmatic requirements.
• Generate design through conscious consideration of spatial typologies, section-plan relationship, contextual conditions and considerations of human scale, natural light, materiality and textures.
• Resolve basic building construction, materials and environmental considerations.
• Produce and justify a design of a small-scale community building within an open/suburban context, following analysis and exploration of the site, the user requirements, environmental sustainability, buildability and spatial poetics.
• Communicate design through effective visual and expressive verbal presentation to peer, tutors and architects from industry.
Task 1 SCHEMATIC DESIGN Propose a design scheme which response to the site (site topography, history and socio-cultural events), functional program and users’ experiences
Task 2 KEY SECTION AND EXPERIENTIAL SPACES Generate design through conscious consideration of human scale, natural light, materials/ texture (User experience).
Task 3 TECHNICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS Your design scheme shall take into consideration of technical and environmental aspects. Develop your design work by integrating structural system, buildability in construction, passive design strategies, and thermal comfort considerations.

Reflection
Throughout this whole semester, I felt like I have progressed and learnt a lot, especially having deeper understanding about spatial planning, site contextual and translating poetic to architecture. We are to produce and justify a design of a small-scale community building within a suburban context, following analysis and exploration of the site, the user requirements, environmental sustainability, buildability and spatial poetics. Not to mention this is the most challenging assignment of all. I have met so many challenges and overcame, the never ending struggles with Revit software and sleepless night has made at a daunting experience for me. Despite having ups and downs, I learn that design is a never ending journey, there are so many ways possible and so much more ahead for me to discover and learn, perhaps it will be a fun yet haunting dreams to pursue. At the very end, I wasn’t utterly satisfied with my outcome but still manages to produce rather acceptable standards. At the same time, I’m glad that I have progressed so far from knowing nothing about Revit at the beginning. With the help of Ms Yan Yee, she gave me support and directions, she pull me back on track and motivates me when I’m lost. I'm very thankful to have Ms Yan Yee as my tutor.
